Granny's Homemade Ways: Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss Activities and Stories for Boys and Girls-March 2, 2010

If you are a reader of Tales From Tickle Belly Farm, you know that we love books and try to promote reading for children of all ages. So we would not be doing our job if we didn't recognize and celebrate the wonderful and unsual, Dr. Seuss who was born on March 2, 1904.

Who hasn't wanted to eat green eggs and ham? And speaking of green, what would Christmas be like without the Grinch? Silly verses and even sillier pictures have drawn millions of children into reading. I can't tell you how many young parents I've met who tell me that their favorite books were written by Dr. Seuss. Today's hub celebrates Dr. Seuss and the love reading.

Why not have a family Seuss-ville style birthday? Everybody-including mom and dad-get to don their pajamas and grab their favorite Dr. Seuss books. Bring in favorite blankest and pillows and make it a reading marathon!

Don't have the Seuss books that you loved as a child? Plan ahead and make a family trip to your local library. Besides books, your library will probably have some Seuss celebration ideas too. 

Whatever you do, have fun with your family and make some Dr. Seuss memories.

 But who cares! They are easy and fun to make! Everyone can help make them and eat them!

You will need:

• oatmeal, sugar or any plain type cookie that comes in a tube or package, ready to bake
• chocolate bits (for the nose and eyes)
• white icing (small prepared tube that comes with tip)
• chocolate icing (small prepared tube that comes with tip)

1. Bake the cookies per package instructions
2. Let cool but before completely cooled, insert the chocolate bit for the nose.
3. When completely cooled: apply white icing for eyes. Then cut a chocolate bit in half for eyes and insert in white icing.
4. Finally, pipe in whiskers and details with chocolate icing.
5. Let set and enjoy!
